The best part of each and every day was undoubtedly three o'clock, the minute when school ended. At this moment, Jack found himself staring at the clock on the wall, waiting for the second hand to point at the twelve. Why did the last minute always last an hour? he tapped his foot impatiently, drumming his fingers on the desk in front of him. The second hand finally reached the twelve and Jack jumped to his feet as the teacher rolled her eyes. He remembered a time when she fought with him about waiting to be dismissed before he left, but she gave up on that ages ago. Jack nodded to her, walking until he reached the door, then he ran down the hallway until he finally made it to the front doors to the school. As usual, he was the first one out and he laughed when he felt the sun's beams on his face. Taking a deep breath, Jack leaned up up against the railway for the stairs in front of the school. He was waiting for a friend, Anna, to be specific. She was in the grade younger than him, but even if she'd been in his grade he wouldn't have waited for her to reach him before he left. He hated being stuck inside at school. The second he saw her, he waved. "Anna, over here!" ANNA LEISLE LARSEN

Anna liked school and she mostly felt pretty good at it. Of course, there were some subjects that didn't exactly thrill her to the core. She was terrified of gym class, and she always had it at the end of the day, which is why, she was sure, it felt like a millions years passed by in that laminate room rather than an hour. Once the bell finally rang, freeing her from her dodge-ball prison, she bolted to the locker room and was the first one changed and ready to leave, which wasn't unusual at all for the scrawny red head. Anna had other talents, she didn't need to be physically gifted as well. Anna, ever the social butterfly, smiled at and waved to most everyone as she passed them in the hallway of the schoolhouse. It was a decently small school, it wasn't hard to get to know people, plus, Anna was a chatter and could talk to anyone for hours. The girl didn't need to stop at her locker for any books on her way out, so she just headed out the main door along with a flood of other students, all eager to see the light of day, rather than the light let off by the florescent overhead lamps. She heard her name as she exited through the main doors and turned around. Her friend Jack, who was a year older than her, had been waiting. She wasn't exactly surprised as this was a fairly regular event, however, it was always nice to see that he was there. it made her feel special. "Hey Jack! How was your day?" she asked with a friendly smile. JACKSON CARTER FRYE

Jack grinned when his friend started heading over towards him. He loved it when people came right away. Mostly because that meant he didn't have to wait for them, but also because he really liked being with his friends. Anna smiled back at him, asking how his day was and Jack moaned theatrically. "Looooooong. I swear, someone somewhere is using magic to make it so each minute lasts hours in there." Yes, he was overdoing it, but that was also a bit of his personality. "At least we're finally done." He nodded firmly, definitely glad to be out of there. He started walking away from the school, following the crowd of other students. "How was your day?" Jack was more interested in asking if they could do something today, but he decided he might as well try and be polite first. He knew that others- specifically girls- liked to be given the chance to talk. So he gave it to her. ANNA LEISLE LARSEN

Jack dramatically admitted that his day had been long, and added that it was at if someone was using magic to make the hours go by slower. Anna laughed, "always so dramatic. And anyway, if someone did have magic, why would they waste it on making school time slow town? That seems like such a waste, there are so many other, way cooler things that you could do with it." she didn't realize that she was rambling until she began thinking about all the cool things that could be done with magic, most of which involved ice for some odd reason. "Well I didn't get hit by anything in Gym today so I'd mark today as a success." Anna said with a smirk over to her friend. Anna was anything but graceful, in fact, she was quite possibly the opposite. She then looked up at the man walking beside her, "so do you need to rush anywhere or are you free to hang out for a bit?" she asked. JACKSON CARTER FRYE

Anna laughed at his antics, which made Jack smirk. He absolutely loved making people laugh and smile and have fun. It was literally his favorite thing to do. Was that weird? He didn't really care if it was. He shrugged as she called him dramatic, saying that anyone with magic wouldn't waste it on school time. Jack grimaced at her, "You don't know that. Besides, if anyone here did have magic, I would undoubtedly be their nemesis, so I'm sure they'd do anything they could to make my life miserable. Messing with the time at school would be a perfect way to do that." His eyebrows arched triumphantly. He'd proven his point fairly well, he thought. He clapped for Anna when she said that she made it through gym without getting hit. "Woo! I am so proud of you. That's like the first time in ... at least a month, right?" Jack winked at her, unable to help himself. What? Teasing her was fun! Well ... teasing anyone was fun, but just more so when it was someone like Anna. He turned, grinning down at her when she asked him another question. "Oh, I'm all down for hanging out! I was about to ask you that same thing!" He turned around and moved in front of her, walking backwards so they were still walking, but he wanted to face her. "So what are you in the mood for today?" he asked, his eyes twinkling mischievously. Hopefully she wanted to do something really fun. ANNA LEISLE LARSEN

"Oh right, you would totally be the nemesis of an evil wizard." she laughed with a small scoff behind it. "I can see it now: Jack-who-wouldn't-hurt-a-fly vs. someone-with-actual magic." she teased. "Who would win? No one knows." she couldn't stop herself from laughing. She wasn't teasing to be mean, she thought it was funny, and she knew that he was just joking too, obviously, since magic didn't exist, and if it did, she couldn't see it existing on their little Island. Surly it would be somewhere cooler: some bustling metropolis. He laughed and clapped and said he was impressed that she hadn't been injured. She laughed too. She knew he was teasing but he made a fair point in it all. "Hey I haven't had anything more than a bruise in a while." she defended herself with another laugh. Her legs, however, were covered in little bruises, she wasn't sure how she got them all. She swore that they just appeared in the night. "Yes! I beat you too it." she clapped when he said he was going to ask her the same question. He then asked what she was in the mood for and she thought for a moment, making an audible 'hmmm' sound. "Wannah walk to the beach? We can build a sand castle or something." she suggested. JACKSON CARTER FRYE

Jack was fully aware that Anna was laughing at him, teasing him for his ridiculous argument. Thing was, he knew it wasn't real but at the same time it kind of ... sounded right. If magic was a thing, he'd have an arch nemesis ... wouldn't he? He shook his head to push the thoughts out of his mind, focusing more on his friend. He smirked, "That's right, I would be. And I would win, of course! Are you doubting my awesomeness?!" He pretended to be offended, covering his heart with a hand dramatically. "Oh, that hurts Anna. And here I was, thinking we were friends." She wouldn't take him seriously. Anna knew him too well for that, but he was still having fun with the conversation. He dropped his jaw when she said she hadn't gotten hurt badly in a while. "Are you serious?! Not even a paper-cut? Wow, who are you and what have you done with Anna?" He demanded, narrowing his eyes at her even though it was all in teasing. He laughed at her enthusiasm when she found out she beat him to asking if they could do something. Of course she would get excited about that. He was honestly just happy that she wasn't too busy today. His smile widened at her suggestion. "Perfect! Beach sand-castles! And playing in the water, of course." Knowing himself, he would probably start some sort of water fight. Jack couldn't seem to help it. He loved messing around. He turned so they were now walking towards the beach and then turned to look at his friend. "Hey, tell you what. How about we race there and whoever wins gets to decide what we do first?" He arched his eyebrows, smiling confidently. If she agreed, he was definitely going to win. Still, it'd be fun to make her do something before they did the castle. Totally worth it. "Truth hurt's doesn't it?" Anna asked with a smirk. Of course it wasn't the truth, but it was part of the joke. "I know. It's amazing. Almost magical." she said, glancing up to him teasingly while bringing the conversation full circle back to their debate about magical use in terms of high school. It was a silly conversation, but she was having an absolute blast talking about it. Jack agreed to go to the beach and Anna smiled, she didn't have any homework due tomorrow or anything to look forward to at home tonight, exactly, so she was happy to spend the afternoon and into the evening with her good friend at the beach. She loved the weather right now, it was so sunny and nice, perfect weather to spend outside. Anna hated being inside for too long, she got cabin fever very quickly. "Oh yes, water, of course." she nodded, very seriously. After a second of walking there, he asked if she wanted to race. Anna smiled as she thought about it, she knew that she wouldn't win, and in fact was fairly sure she'd fall and scrape some part of her body, but then an idea snuck into her head. "I don't know if that's a good idea..." she said slowly and then bolted past him, running as fast as she could without giving him any time to understand what she was doing until she was already doing it. She knew he'd catch her, but this was more fun anyway. JACKSON CARTER FRYE

She didn't admit that she'd been teasing, and Jack narrowed his eyes to glare at her. Even though he knew she was teasing, it was more fun to pretend like he didn't know. "I'm not quite sure if it's the truth, so yeah it hurts," he muttered. Then he laughed when she said that it was magical that she hadn't been injured recently. Jack scoffed, shaking his head, "Are you sure there's no magic at our school? Pretty sure there would have to be some in order to keep you from being injured." He blinked, giving her an innocent smile. She agreed they should play in the water! Jack grinned, a bounce in his step now as he continued walking beside her. He was all for spending time at the beach, especially when he knew Anna would let him get into all the mischief he wanted to. It definitely made it a bunch more fun, even if she seemed serious as they walked. He watched her when he asked if she wanted to run and she smiled a little, but continued to say that she didn't think it was a good idea. Jack frowned, about to ask why when she took off. He laughed and lit out after her. "That's cheating, you know!" he called, loudly enough that she should be able to hear. He was all for cheating, but mostly just the kind that helped him win. Right now he was at a disadvantage, but that didn't matter. He was definitely a bit faster than his clumsy friend. "Careful, there's a banana right in front of you!" He made something up as he approached her on the left, wondering if he could distract her and pass her. Then again, she might realize that he was teasing ... either way he'd be passing her in just a few seconds. He was ready for it. ANNA LEISLE LARSEN

Jack caught on her to tricks quickly and zoomed right behind her. She giggled as she ran, her backpack flopped up and down each time her feet hit the Earth and she wondered momentarily whether her water bottle would open and spill everywhere. If it did, it was just her luck. She'd dealt with wet books before and was basically an expert in that subject by now. He called that she was cheating and she just continued to giggle, her giggles slowly transitioned to half of breath giggles, Anna wasn't athletic at all and running for extended periods of time wore her out quickly, but she was determined to at least make it to the beach, which was in sight. Jack tried to through her off by telling her that there was a banana peel in front of her, and for a moment, she believed him and looked down at the ground, she stumbled a second and then was able to catch herself before she fell or had to stop running entirely. "Hey that's a mean trick." she laughed, out of breath as she ran after her friend, who had taken the lead by far. He was quickly coming up on the sandy dunes. JACKSON CARTER FRYE

Jack loved running. It was almost as fun and playing games and having water wars and everything like it. There was a kind of freedom that came with having the wind rush through his hair and it was absolutely his favorite. He was good at it true. Granted, he was sure that someone was faster than he was, but as of yet ... well so far he hadn't found someone that could outrun him. Which was why he felt entirely confident that he would be able to beat Anna. They'd raced before. The wonderful thing about Anna that she was always ready to try again, even if she already knew what the outcome would be. He zoomed past her, laughing when she slowed down to check out the banana. He heard her telling him that it was a mean trick and laughed a little harder. "You started the tricking, my friend," he called right before he reached the sand of the beach. The sand was slippery and much more difficult to run on, but Jack fought through it. He wanted to reach the waterfront before he stopped ... or maybe he'd just run into the water. Honestly, it just depended on what he felt like when he got there. "Come on, slowpoke!" he teased, twisting around to make sure his friend was still coming. "Careful not to fall on the sand," Jack added with a wink before facing forward again. The beach was empty, which was exactly what he wanted. It meant he didn't have to deal with running into anyone or their things, which just made things more simple. When Jack made it to the waterfront, he collapsed onto his knees in the water, ducking his head forward to dip his hair in it. Then he turned around to see where Anna was. How far did he beat her by? They made it to the beach and Jack made it all the way to the water, when he dropped down, she stopped running, he already won, she didn't need to try anymore. So she threw her backpack off and then dramatically collapsed onto the sand, feeling the waves come up on her toes as she laid on her back with her arm draped over her eyes to block out the sun, not that it was too bright, but she didn't want it in her eyes either way. She let out a dramatic "ughhhh" to go along with her collapse, but her face still sported an ear to ear grin. "One of these days you're going to be the death of me." she insisted, flailing her other arm in the air while she spoke. She continued to lay there as she caught her breath, unaware of whatever he was doing. That was fun. She'd do it again for sure. Not right now, of course, but maybe tomorrow. JACKSON CARTER FRYE

Anna didn't say anything in respond to any of his teasing, which actually made pretty good sense. She was probably tired of running, a theory that was confirmed when Jack turned around to look at her. Her cheeks were a little rosy as she walked towards him. "Quitter," he teased in a cheerful voice. A second later she was closer, collapsing on the ground and moaning. Jack laughed, entirely pleased by her reaction to him winning. He shrugged at her accusation, "I can't help it. I'm so much fun it's dangerous." He craned his neck to see her a little better. She was covering her face with her arm, which was perfect. It meant she'd never see this coming. Jack smirked as he scooped a handful of water out of the sea and proceeded to drop it on the part of her face that her arm wasn't covering, laughing as he did so. "Come on Anna, you're not supposed to get here and fall asleep. Weren't we going to do something fuuuuun?" He was teasing, but his tone wasn't entirely serious. He was ready to do something now, and hoped that she was as well. ANNA LEISLE LARSEN

Anna wasn't a bad sport, she took loosing with ease and always congratulated whoever one, but with Jack it was different, he brought out her slightly more competitive side. She didn't have to congratulate him for winning because he always won and it wasn't a surprise who won, plus, the games were always just for fun and nothing really rested on the outcomes. Except for bragging rights. But she didn't feel the need to congratulate him on acquiring more bragging rights. "If I quit I don't have to loose." she admitted with another giggle as she worked on just catching her breath under the sun. "plus i totally made it to the water." she added, wiggling her foot. Then it was quiet for a moment, which was suspicious. Just as Anna was going to sit up and look around, she felt water fall onto her face. The red head flailed both of her arms and sat up quickly. "Jack!!!" she exclaimed with a smile. "Fine, you've got my attention. Yes, let's do something." she finally stood up after shaking the water off of her face. JACKSON CARTER FRYE

Teasing Anna was almost like second nature to Jack. They were good enough friends that he could be confident assuming she wouldn't mind and she knew him well enough to know he was rarely serious. All in all, it was a good healthy friendship. He glared at her when she didn't have to lose if she quit. "Quitting is losing!" he argued, "And the deal was to run to the water, not to stop halfway on the beach." Jack pushed her shoulder lightly. He wasn't really angry, but he had to say this to her. He laughed loudly at her reaction when he dumped the water on her. "Ahhh that was perfect!" he chortled, enjoying his success even more. "Good. I'm glad you're ready. I declare ... water fight!" He splashed her as he said the words, laughing as he jumped to his feet and moved a little further into the water, waiting for her to try and retaliate. This was going to be great! ANNA LEISLE LARSEN
