Once Upon a Time
There are stories we learn about as children that stick with us forever. Ones about boys who never grow up, princesses who fall into a deep sleep only to be awoken by their true love, or stories about falling down a rabbit hole. And then there are those stories that don't stick with us, ones that we would like to forget. Such is the story of the boogeyman, or Pitch, as he prefers to go by.
Once upon a time in a land faraway, the monster known as Pitch Black was determined to bring darkness to the world. He would haunt the closets and dark corners of children's nightmares. Tired of being feared by all of the earth's children, he tried to turn all young minds against the Guardians. But, as they do in all stories, the villain failed and goodness prevailed. Pitch seemed to have disappear forever... until now.
Having been gone for so long, none of the earth's children feared the boogeyman anymore. Unfortunately, Pitch saw this as the perfect opportunity to return from the shadows and rise up again. But instead of turning the children of the earth against the Guardians, Pitch determined a nefarious plot: to turn the Guardians and all of the storybook creatures against one another. Perhaps hoping it would in turn cause the children to stop believing in them. Pitch set out to steal North's snowball and when he succeeded, he set out to conquer the fairy tale worlds.
Fortunately, our heroes, Prince Charming and his dear love Cinderella, heard of the treachery and dared to interfere and fight against Pitch's plans. However they did not expect the boogeyman to possess such powers, and it resulted in the untimely death of Prince Charming's princess. Cinderella was gone.
Devastated, Prince Charming turned to the only person he knew that could help them: Enchantress, a most powerful and wise being, the same who had put a spell on his old friend, Beast. Enchantress agreed to help Charming but Pitch didn't go out without a fight. In the battle between Enchantress and Pitch, who used the Snowglobe as his weapon, Enchantress's powers erased the memories of the storybook characters across all the worlds. An unforeseen effect of this battle ended with all the characters being removed from their own respective worlds and placed on an island. Unfortunately, the magic from North's snowball also removed all magic from any who practiced it. The remaining magic, lingering from the battle, transformed all into humans. Enchantress and Charming remain the only people to remember their old life.
Now all of our childhood heroes, villains, sidekicks, and minions reside on Cinder Isle, named after a dear friend no one can even remember. They know something from their memory is missing, but they don't know what. It is uncertain the fates that everyone will encounter, but time will tell if they regain their memories and with it, their destinies.
