Milo James Thatch Male 23 Atlantis: The Lost Empire Milo James Thatch Cole Sprouse Colin | Appearance
Clean shaven and at an even six feet tall, Milo tends to keep himself as academic as possible, mostly for the sake of his studies. A pair of reading glasses often adorn his square face, and while necessary to read, he is extremely self-aware that it rounds off the scholarly look, the only common distraction from this being his mop of dirty-blonde hair, which is constantly being pushed off to the side. The completion of his field studies usually means an assortment of clothing appropriate for long hikes around the island, whereas his normal wardrobe consists of jeans and a button-up.
Personality
Milo enjoys following a disciplined lifestyle. Being thrown a curveball when he thinks he’s hitting a fastball can cause him to lock up and try to recalculate what he needs to do next. At times he’s antisocial, preferring to sit and tinker with his array of hobbies; building small clocks, putting ships in bottles, and even charting the stars. He enjoys puzzles and anything that requires intense hand-eye coordination all while using his brain. While a rubix cube is too simple for him anymore, he still carries one around and will constantly twist it if he needs to think. When it comes to studying, sticking his nose into a book for hours on end isn’t an impossible feat like it is for some.
While few in numbers, his close friends are guarded and protected fiercely, and he isn’t afraid of speaking up if he thinks someone is wrong. At times this is mistaken for arrogance, and he realizes that, but still continues to call out anyone that is inconsistent with their own actions. With these friends, he tries to be as true to himself as possible. If he feels like doing things on his own, like working on a personal project, he’ll do that instead of hanging out with them. He knows when he needs to do things and when he doesn’t have to, and that’s why he only puts the time into building strong friendships with those he knows will last. Surrounding himself with artificial friends and acquaintances won’t accomplish anything aside from talking points at social events he probably wouldn’t go to in the first place. That’s not to say he can’t be friendly to people that approach him; if he feels that a person will make an impact in his life and he can in theirs, then he’ll keep up with them.
History
Before, In Short: Orphaned after a railway accident, Milo was raised by his grandfather, Thaddeus Thatch, and quickly proved that he was an enigma when it came to his studies. Graduating high school at the age of eleven, Milo immediately went on to study at Oxford University, deciding on his field of studies in the form of archaeology, languages, and antiquities.
Graduated and finding himself working in Washington, DC, Milo’s interests became centered around finding the lost city of Atlantis, a supposed ancient civilization that had disappeared underwater centuries earlier. His theories and requests for a funded research expedition to find Atlantis were shot down by the Smithsonian Institute, leading him to find help elsewhere. Acting as a translator for a separate expedition established by a Preston Whitmore, a former colleague and friend of Milo’s grandfather, he finally achieved the goal he had been striving towards for years.
Eventually Atlantis was reached, though the heads of the expedition had other ideas on how they would proceed forward with the Atlantean people. Milo and a few others befriended the crown princess, Kida, and from there assisted the Atlanteans in a war against the surface dwellers, eventually ending with a victory.
Now: Milo remembers nothing of his travels or interests in Atlantis. Being on the Isle leaves him wondering what else could be out there though, his official employment being that of the lighthouse keeper. Staying close to the ocean feels comfortable for him. His love for studying and academics hasn’t left either, and for the most part, everything he learned while at Oxford has stuck with him, even if he doesn’t remember going to Oxford anymore. When he isn’t helming the lighthouse, he wanders the beaches and forests of the island, trying to figure out why he is where he is, and what he can do to feed his hunger for more knowledge.
While he often feels like he’s treated like a recluse, living on the outskirts of the town and on his own, it suits his lifestyle the best. Having to be stuck around the busy streets of Whitebridge means getting caught up in unnecessary drama, something that would disrupt his daily routine. Milo is much more open to conversation and intellectual debates out in the wilderness, where calm minds prevail. Currently, his interests lay in charting the island and the many different environments around it. It seems like the smartest move to him, considering that being a lighthouse keeper doesn’t take much effort when boats are never coming into port.
