Meredith Anne Groff Female 25 Tangled Mother Gothel Katie McGrath Kierra | Appearance
Meredith has, somehow, kept the figure that she absolutely loved during her life. She is slender and pretty tall for a woman at 5'11". Her hair is long, dark and generally very curly. She is still pale with red lips and grey eyes (unlike Katie McGrath). She loves her hourglass figure and dresses to impress. She loves fancy dresses, but be aware of the fact that she is generally armed. She does very different things with her hair on a constant basis, is always looking for ways to look more attractive. She loves it when people stare at her while she walks down the street.
Personality
Meredith is a master of keeping to herself. She loves being in the company of others and having people to talk with and have fun with, but that doesn't mean they really know her. With others, she only shows the parts of herself that she wants them to see. She shows them the intelligent, clever, elegant and flirtatious woman that she wants them to see.
What most people don't know about her is that she is cunning, selfish, vain and can be quite manipulative when she wants to be. Often, she is sneaky when she lets these traits out, making it seem like she is doing or saying whatever she is to try and help the people around her, the people who are actually her victims.
However, there is a softer side to her. When she finds people that she can truly connect with, she becomes very protective of them, to the point where she would do literally anything to help them. It takes a while to develop this kind of trust with her, but once you have it, she will be there for you. Unless you betray her. She is unforgiving of anyone who she thinks turns on her. As a general rule, it is much harder for a man to earn her trust than a woman, though she doesn't quite understand why she instinctively doesn't trust men. All in all, she is quite similar to the woman she was before the war, except for the fact that she is entirely unaware and oblivious to the fact that she is "the bad guy" and she is not bitter towards the rest of the world.
She likes being around people, collecting artifacts and going on walks through the woods. She dislikes anyone she sees as smarter than her, but she also has a strange dislike for any woman with long hair, especially if it's blonde. In her mind it's because she sees them as competition but that's not the real reason.
History
Meredith comes from the story Tangled, where she was originally Mother Gothel. Not a lot is known about Mother Gothel's youth, but the truth is she was raised in a home where the only important thing was beauty. Her father was a soldier, a strong man who cared for his wife. At least, they thought he did until one day he declared that she looked old and left. Her mother, who was still fairly young at that time, worked at a nearby inn to care for her daughter.
Her father came to the village from time to time, refusing to see her mother, but pleased to see Mother Gothel. She was a great beauty and he brought her gifts, promising to take her to the palace when she was older. The young girl clung to this promise, taking every effort to care for herself so that when her father came, he would see she was ready.
Unfortunately, he died before he could take her to the castle. Mother Gothel was heartbroken when she learned that he would never return and that there was no one to take her to the castle. However, the knight that brought news to her of her father's death started to pay court to her. He was young and handsome and charmed by her flirtatious ways and beauty. By the time he left the village to return to the castle for a short time, they had an understanding between one another. The young man never returned. Mother Gothel learned that upon his return he married the princess of the land. When she learned of his deceit, she grew reticent and introverted, no longer noticing how the other villagers reached out to her, assuming they all wanted to make her suffer as her father and the young knight had. To her, they all had terrible intentions.
She left the village, growing bitter and resentful towards men. All they cared about was wealth and power and using beautiful women. As she grew, she stayed aloof from others, deciding to live a solitary life as she observed the people in the village. She built a tower out in the woods where one day she would hide from the rest of the world, which she did once she felt she knew the forest well enough.
She grew old and knew her time was nearing its end when one night she saw something golden fall from the sky. She ran to the spot where it was, finding a flower as bright as the sun. She stroked the petals lovingly, ready to die right then and there. As she touched them, a song she'd never heard entered her mind. When she sang it, her aches and pains disappeared and she realized she was young again. The flower was magical.
Mother Gothel debated telling others about the flower, but she'd observed enough about the world to know what they would do with it. They would destroy it, just as they'd destroyed her. She kept the flower a secret, but when the Queen of the Land got sick the people searched for the flower, stole it and did exactly as she feared.
Mother Gothel went to the castle to see if perhaps part of the flower survived and maybe she could revive it, but she found nothing except a young child ... with hair the same color as the flower. She touched the baby's hair, surprised when the song came to her mind again. She tried to cut the hair, but the magic died when she did so, so she did the only logical thing. She took the girl, just as the people took the flower from her.
She raised the young girl, Rapunzel, in her tower, far away from everyone else. She adored the lifestyle her little flower gave her, and it was nice to have some company too. Life could not be better.
Then, on Rapunzel's 18th birthday, she lied to Mother Gothel, setting out with a thief to go see some ridiculous stars that she claimed only came out on her birthday. Mother Gothel tried to convince her to return, and when her flower refused, she convinced two criminals to aid her and manipulated her child back home.
However, her attempt to kill the thief failed and the man returned to the castle to save Rapunzel. Gothel stabbed him to keep him from revealing their location or secret and fought to take Rapunzel away, finally agreeing to let her save the man in return for coming quietly. Flynn Rider cut all of Rapunzel's hair, destroying the precious flower Mother Gothel always protected.
She fell out the window as she shriveled and became old, slipping out of the cloak when she hit the ground hard. Everyone assumed she died, but the ancient Mother Gothel crawled away and hid in a cave, waiting to find some way to enact her revenge. She knew nothing of the war.
Then she awoke on Cinder Isle, owner of the Golden Flower Pawn Shop. She still did not trust men, or many people, though she had fun spending time with them. Her one true love was her shop. Inside she had all sorts of artifacts found around the island. Some were strange things like old lamps, a glass slipper, a shell necklace and a fur coat. Other objects seemed more common, such as a rose, compass, tiaras and crowns (there were several different kinds of these), and gloves, among other things. She cherished these items, though she did not really know why. She couldn't remember every living anywhere else or doing anything else with her life and she had no suspicion that things here on Cinder Isle were not what they seemed. She enjoys her life and getting things her way, most of the time. |
