It was not often that Henry visited the White Bridge, contrary to what may seem normal. He'd often wait until late at night, when no one would catch him reading it. He was there now, under the moonlight at some ungodly hour, reading the story again. He saw himself on the bridge, Ella, his family, hers, the ball... the Bridge did not tell of the war or of her death. Of course not. It was simply a fairy tale to the residents, nothing dark or cold tainted to taint it. He walked along the bridge, running his fingers over the words. Each time he saw her name he'd linger there, taking a moment to remember the curve of her face, her soft smile, her bold eyes... he would never forget her as long as he lived, whether he found love again or not. But he doubted that would happen. Towards the middle of the story, the part where she leaves him at the ball, he stopped, hearing a sound of someone approaching. WENDY LILAH DARLING

Wendy wasn't someone who ever went out looking for trouble, but she was one who fancied a bit of exploring from time to time. When the weather got to warm, she found it hard to sleep and would rather spend her nights wandering the Island, taking advantage of the cool breeze. The wind seemed so welcoming, it almost felt like she could open her arms and let the gusts lift her up and send her soaring through the skies. Why was flight impossible? She had to wonder. On this particular night, she found herself wandering a bit farther than usual. The small heels of her boots clicked as she walked onto the wooden bridge and she saw a figure pacing in the moonlight. His form reflected over the water. Wendy wasn't exactly scared of this stranger in the night, their Island was a pretty peaceful one. But it was still strange to see anyone out this late. "Are you alright?" she asked the man as she made her way to the crest of the bridge. HENRY AUGUST CHARMONT

Henry heard a voice and, for a moment, thought he had imagined it. He honestly hadn't spoken to that many people here, especially not those he used to be friends with. But he didn't recognize the girl as he looked over at her. That meant she wasn't a royal in a magical kingdom, he knew all of them. It was refreshing to see someone that he didn't recognize. It made him almost feel like everyone else on the island. He had considered more than once asking the Enchantress to wipe his memories too... But then she'd be on her own with the memories and wouldn't have him to help if Pitch found them. No, he was stuck like this. For the better of everyone. He straightened up, trying to make a smile grow on his lips rather than look so melancholy. "Oh, yes. Just contemplating," he said slowly, probably sounding awkward. "Have you read the story?" he gestured to the writing on the bridge. WENDY LILAH DARLING

As the man looked at Wendy, she saw an odd look on his face, not that she could see every detail of his profile, but what she could see, illuminated by the moonlight and soft glow of the streetlamps nearby. It almost looked like relief. Maybe he had been expecting someone else. He seemed to clear his thoughts and then smiled at her while he admitted that he had just been contemplating. She wanted to ask what he was thinking about, but she didn't know the man at all and felt it would be strange to ask a stranger what they thought about in the dead of the night when one thought that they were alone. Wendy looked down at the words and shrugged, "Sure." she felt almost compelled to admit. "Damsel in distress, talking animals, handsome prince." she listed, she had heard the story, it was a popular one, parents knew the story and told it to their kids, she told it to her charges. "Quite the fairy tale." she added with a smirk. "Perfect ending at all." she concluded. She wondered why he was reading it, was he new to town? Had he just stumbled upon the landmark. She admitted she had heard the story, that it was one of the tales she told her 'charges', which he assumed meant somebody's children... Or maybe dogs she looked after. Damsel in distress... Well, yes his wife was in a rather distressing situation but she had been decent at not letting it distress her. She was couragous, always. The handsome prince part was true, of course, and he resisted smiling at that. Then she added that the story had the perfect ending, and he felt a sudden pain in his chest. Stories had endings, yes, but the people in those stories continued on after the part that everyone heard. Fictional stories always had happy endings. Fictional stories, like the one on this bridge. The one that ended with him and Cinderella getting married. He nodded, looking away from her and back to the white railing of the bridge. "I find I don't read stories as much as I should, they do add value and beauty to the world, no?" he was only half addressing her, mostly thinking to himself about how all of their histories were stories now. For reasons unknown to Wendy, this story seemed to play some major roll in the life of the stranger standing before her. She almost thought she saw a pained look on his face as she spoke of the tale. There were obviously some memories that he was associating with the story. Maybe it reminded him of something traumatic in his past. " I love stories. I love that magical things always seem to happen to the people that deserve it most, and the people that think they deserve it always seem to get a taste of the real world." in the case of the story on the bridge, the step-family got their karma, and the prince and new princess were able to live happily ever after. It was wonderful how everyone learned exactly the lessons they were meant to. "Sometimes I wish life was more like one of these stories. It'd be easier if lessons were clear at the end of a challenging event." she admitted with an easy shrug. "I'm Wendy, by the way." The woman said, extending her hand to the stranger. She didn't want to be rude, and it was never a bad thing to meet a new person, especially if the person could end up being a friend. HENRY AUGUST CHARMONT

She said she loved stories and the magical things that happened to those who deserved it. He could see that being both positive and negative. In Cinderellas case, amazing magic had been bestowed upon her so she could attend the ball, but in other cases magic just made things worse. That was why he and the Enchantress decided to leave magic out of the island for as long as possible. It was still there just... untapped. As she spoke about the 'taste of the real world' Henry couldn't help but smile, amused. Ella's step mother and sisters did indeed get a taste of that. At her commenting on wishing life was more like the stories he nodded, "I feel in real life sometimes we don't see the lessons of our challenges until years later," he agreed. Some of his challenges were still a mystery to him. She gave her name and he nodded, taking her outstretched hand to shake it. "Henry, pleasure to meet you Wendy," the name didn't stand out in his brain, which was nice. It meant she was brand new and no painful memories would be attached to her. He released her hand, "you seem quite comfortable with a handshake, I'm impressed," he said. He had been trained how to give the perfect handshake since birth, basically, so he recognized a good one. The man spoke, basically agreeing with her, Wendy nodded her head along with his words, "Exactly. And sometimes not at all, or at least you don't realize it. It would just be easier if everything could be spelled out for us a bit. Humans are quite a naive bunch." she said with a smirk. he was a rather handsome man and she wondered if she had ever seen him before. It seemed strange to meet a stranger on their little island but she couldn't recall knowing him. She would have remembered such a face, surly. "The pleasure's mine, Henry." Wendy cooed, batting her eyelashes a bit without entirely realizing that she was doing it. "Well a professional, independent woman has to have a good handshake, how else are we meant to intimidate the world?" she teased. "And what do you do?" she asked. HENRY AUGUST CHARMONT
